The Center for
Infrastructure Protection and Physical Security (CIPPS),
located in the University of Florida’s Department of
Civil and Coastal Engineering,
is the largest university-based center in the
world devoted to the development and implementation of
protective technology against blast, shock, impact, and
terrorism. Its technical and scientific staff has advanced
academic degrees in Aerospace, Civil, Mechanical,
Mechanics and Structural Engineering. The Center is
supported by various US and foreign government agencies.

The Institute is major scientific center of the mining
profile in Georgia. Its staff is comprised of 52
researches and engineers, implementing five international
projects with collaborators from the US, Germany and
Spain. The Institute is equipped with , which, according to

major areas of the research include: - physical processes accompanying explosions;
- design of facilities for protection from
unauthorized explosions; - study of steady condition and dynamic processes
of mining equipment.
