Minister of Education and
Science, Dimitri Shashkini
visited G.Tsulukidze Mining
Institute and attended the
imitated show of tunnel
protection new technologies from
the heavy results of explosion.
Institute implements the program
Protection People from Terrorist
Explosions in Underground
Structures from 2005 in the
framework of NATO program
Science for Peace and Security.
The project is designed to
develop automatic protective
equipment for unpredictable
explosions that will be
activated for reduction of
excessive pressure on shock wave
front, exclude the possibility
of fire after explosion and
transmission of information
regarding the place and time of
explosion to rescue services.
Workings that are envisaged in
the project are being
implemented. Draft of the
protective system will be based
on the research results. These
results will be used to measure
the effectiveness of this
equipment that is foreseen in
the plan of the next year.
One of the priority tasks of
NATO program is underground
structure security problem. It
envisages protection of motor
and railway tunnels, Underground
and other underground objects
from terrorist and unpredictable
explosions.
Underground experimental base
reconstruction is implemented by
the Mining Institute with the
financial support of the
project. Modern scientific
equipment and computers are
bought that enable to conduct
modern research in physics field
of explosion.
Results of already conducted
researches have been presented
at 7 international conferences.
8 articles are published, 2
patents are received and close
cooperation is developed with
the collaborator – Security
Center of the University of
Florida. Institute established
scientific contacts with German,
Dutch and Jewish colleagues.
Four young scientists passed the
training in Italy at modern
research institute that was
organized by NATO (the field of
identification). Training of two
young scientists for teaching
explosion imitation in
computer is foreseen in November
of the current year in Holland.
5 young scientists are granted
with scholarships.
Director of the program from
NATO member countries is
professor Krauthammer. Doctor
Mataradze - from NATO partner
countries. 15 workers of
Tsulukidze Mining Institute
worked on the project and
research.
